Pitching Screens for League & Tourney Play – Senior & Rec Slowpitch
Balls that are hit up the middle are a dangerous but unavoidable part of the game of slowpitch softball. At League Joe, we’ve for years promoted a game where safety and fun trump competitiveness and we have seen first hand how hard shots up the middle can result in arguments, bad vibes, and injuries. In order to eliminate these problems, we have custom designed the perfect pitching screen that bridges the gap between allowing the pitcher to play their position while discouraging placed shots aimed at the middle of the field.
Portable
League Joe Pitching Screen are first and foremost portable. In our leagues, the pitchers have the option to use the nets OR use protective pitching gear, so there are times when teams choose opposite options. Weighing in at just 9lbs 6oz, our nets are light enough to be removed from the field of play with just one hand, and then brought back out when the teams switch.
Durable Steel, Strong Netting
Unlike other portable screen options made of light plastic and basic string, League Joe Pitching Screens feature a durable steel frame and legs that will withstand many direct hits and absorb the majority of the blow without being knocked over or off-balance. The netting is thick, braided netting that resists tears and rips while easily absorbing direct contact from softballs.
Let the Pitcher Play the Position
Other pitching screens can be massive, sometimes looking like a giant obstacle that reduces the impact of the pitcher and the middle infielders defensively. Our League Joe pitching screens are just 2 feet wide by 6 feet tall, meaning the screen can provide coverage for hard, direct shots at the pitcher while still allowing for the pitcher to reach out and snag line drives or play ground balls just off the side either direction.
Built to Enforce Culture & Rules
No pitching screen can guarantee absolute safety of the pitcher, as our game can be unpredictable at times. However, when you place a pitching screen on the mound you are sending a clear, consistent signal to all players on both teams that “Middle is Closed.” Stop the fights and arguments before they start, and signal to the better hitters that they need to focus on pulling and pushing the ball rather than trying to drive the ball through the middle of the field.
